Service Solution (SS-0301)

Product: SSS-301 – Removal of Backrest
Object: Removing the back of the chair from the chair assembly
for parts replacement or return shipment.
Tools: Small flat head screwdriver/ ball point pen.
Procedures:
1. Sit on the chair in the normal seated position.
2. Using your right hand reach around and locate the slide lock
mechanism that controls the seatback height. Squeeze this mechanism
from right to left while at the same time raising the seatback
to its utmost height. Release the mechanism leaving the backrest
in the highest achievable position.
3. Locate the control paddle on the right hand side of the bottom
of the chair.
4. Turn this paddle forward very slightly and carefully lean backwards.
Upon reaching the maximum recline position, release the control
paddle. This will provide maximum access to the backrest support
bracket.
5. Exit the chair, kneel in front of it, and face the back support
bracket. In the back support bracket there will be a vertical slot
approximately 4 inches long and 1/8 inch wide. At the bottom of
this slot is a metal tang/tab.
6. Using a small screwdriver, or ballpoint pen tip in your right
hand depress the tang/tab. With you left hand depress the slide
lock mechanism from right to left and simultaneously lift upwards.
The seatback will now be free of the retaining tang/tab and in
a position to be removed from the chair support mechanism.
7. Carefully lift the seatback bracket off of the chair support
mechanism.
8. You have successfully removed the backrest.
9. For return shipment, please wrap backrest assembly in bubble
wrap for protection during shipping.

Service Solution (SS-0302)
Product: SSS-301
Object: Removal of Slide lock mechanism from the backrest
bracket for replacement.
Tools: Medium size Phillips Screwdriver. Small Flathead screwdriver
Procedure:
1. Successfully complete Technical Bulletin (Service SolutionSS-0301).
2. Place the seatback on a flat surface with the back support upright
facing you; the curvature of the backrest in the upward position,
shroud side facing down.
3. With your right hand loosen the Phillips head screw approximately
3 turns counter clock wise (ccw). Turn the seatback over so the
curvature is facing downwards (shroud side is up).
4. Note: This is a spring-loaded device and there is a 5/8” long
3/8” diameter spring in this device. Starting at the top
of the slide lock mechanism place the Flathead blade between the
backrest bracket and the slide lock mechanism. At the top of the
slide lock mechanism gently lift upwards and towards you. With
steady pressure toward you the slide lock mechanism tab will be
removed from the slot in the backrest bracket and will slide off
the bottom of the back support bracket. Use care in retaining the
spring.
5. You are now ready to install the new slide lock mechanism.
6. Hold the replacement slide lock mechanism in your left hand
with the through hole on the top and the plastic ridge in the slide
lock mechanism towards you. Place the spring in the recess hole
in the bottom and have it stand straight up.
7. Hold the backrest with the shroud facing you and the support
bracket to the left. Insert the bracket into slide lock mechanism
at an approximately 45 Degree angle. This will depress the spring
and keep in it place. Work the remainder of the bracket into the
slide lock mechanism. You should hear an audible click as the slide
lock mechanism engages with the backrest bracket.
8. Install the Phillips head screw until tight.
9. Visually look at spring to see if it is horizontal and properly
in place.
10. Activate the mechanism two- three times to ensure proper activation.
11. You are now ready to reinstall the backrest onto the chair
support mechanism.

Service Solution (SS-0303)
Product: SSS-301 – Removal of backrest from backrest support
bracket.
Object: Removing the backrest from the backrest bracket.
Tools: Allen wrench Size 4mm
Procedures:
Successfully complete SS-0301
1. Note: This is a spring-loaded
device, Use caution.
2. Place the backrest on a flat surface with the curvature in the
downward position (shroud facing up) and the backrest support
bracket toward you.
3. Loosen (ccw) each of the screws completely and remove.
4. Lift the backrest support bracket from the backrest.
5. To replace the backrest- Place the backrest on a flat surface
with the curvature facing down (shroud up).
6. Insert one screw into the back support mechanism and place the
screw into the backrest with the backrest support bracket horizontal
to the backrest. Insert the screw about three quarters the way
in.
7. Rotate the support bracket so that it is facing in the downward
position. The spring will fit into the rectangular recess in the
back of the chair (You will hear an audible click when properly
positioned). Insert the second screw and tighten completely. Tighten
the first screw completely.
8. The backrest is now ready to be reassembled on the chair support
mechanism.
9. Place the backrest support bracket onto the chair mechanism.
Squeeze the slide lock mechanism inward (towards the support rest)
and lower the back rest. Set desired height.

Service Solution (SS-0304)
Product: SSS-301 – Removal of Seat
Object: Removing the Seat of the chair from the chair assembly
for replacement or return shipment.
Tools: Medium/large Phillips head screwdriver
Procedures:
1. Tip chair forward so that it is leaning on the backrest and
seat.
2. There are four Phillips Head screws. Remove all four by turning
(CCW.) Keep in mind orientation of screws. The two shorter screws
go in the back of the seat and the two longer screws go in the
forward mounting holes.
3. Seat is now ready for removal and replacement
4. Place new seat in place. Loosely insert all four screws by hand.
Once all screws have been installed tighten completely.
5. Wrap existing seat in bubble wrap before return shipment.
6. Customer is responsible for the integrity of returned items.

Service Solution (SS-0305)
Product: SSS-301 – Removal of Cylinder
Object: Removing the cylinder from the mechanism of the chair
for replacement or return shipment.
Tools: Large ballpeen or claw hammer
Procedures:
1. Remove backrest from chair. See Service
Solution SS-0301. Place a protective material (towel, sheet, blanket)
on the floor to protect seat cushion fabric.
2. Lower the plastic cover on the cylinder housing, this will telescope
downward with a gentle downward action with your hands.
3. Grasp the base in your less dominant hand and turn the chair
upside down. While the chair is upside down visually locate the
date stamp (on the mechanism) which is just forward of the shiny
cylinder.
4. With your dominant hand grasp the hammer and give the date stamp
a firm strike. The cylinder will dislodge from the mechanism.
5. To remove the cylinder from the base- Grasp the base in your
less dominant hand with the wheels in the upward position.
6. With your dominant hand grasp the hammer and strike the cylinder.
NOTE: Strike the cylinder on the edge (rim) of the cylinder. DO
NOT strike the cylinder in the center.
7. You are now prepared to install the new cylinder.
8. Put the base on the floor in its normal position
9. Place the cylinder in the base and push firmly downward. The
cylinder will lock into place in the base. Reinstall the telescopic
lens onto the cylinder.
10. Take the seat mechanism and place in on the cylinder. CAREFULLY
kneel in the chair and exert downward pressure this will lock the
mechanism onto the cylinder.
11. Wrap the replaced cylinder in bubble wrap or paper for return
shipment.
12. Adjust the chair to its desired settings.

Service Solution (SS-0306)
Product: SSS-301 – Removal/Replacement of Casters
Object: Removing and replacing the casters.
Tools: Flathead Screwdriver, medium size hammer
Procedures:
1. Tip the chair on its side
2. With your less dominant hand grasp the base of the chair. With
your dominant hand grasp the caster and pull away from the base.
3. The caster should come out, if it does not, place the blade
of the screwdriver between the base and caster base and gently
pry away from the chair base. Remove the remaining four in the
same method
4. When inserting the new one, tip the caster at a very slight
angle and push inwards. It will snap into place. If it does not
go in easily, gently tap the bottom of the caster with a hammer
until fully inserted. Do the remaining four in the same method.
5. Return the chair to its upright position.

Service Solution (SS-0307)
Product: SSS-301 – Packaging for return shipment
Object: Proper packaging and preparation for shipment.
Tools: Flathead Screwdriver, Packaging Tape
The Customer is responsible for the integrity and condition of the returned product. The refund amount may be affected by material received at RGP in damaged condition. Procedures:
1. Raise the chair to its highest possible height by utilizing the control paddle on right side of chair.
2. Tilt the seat back as far back as it will go, again using the control paddle on right side of chair. Place the
paddle to the horizontal position.
3. Remove the back rest by following Service Solution SS-0301.
4. Individually wrap the seat and backrest in bubble wrap.
5. Place the chair in the box with the back rest on one of the solid sides of the box (sides without hand holds)
6. Ensure that the backrest support is aligned with one of the wheel supports of the base.
7. There will be two cardboard inserts. Locate the one with the long vertical slot. This will go between the back
of the box and the chair. The chair backrest will fit into the slot.
8. Place the other insert between the front of the box and the front of the stool. The notch on the top of the
insert will face toward the front of the chair.
9. Place the seatback (with the bracket in the up-wards position) in between the front of the box and the insert.
Ensure that there is bubble wrap around the slide lock mechanism.
10. If optional arm rests are included with this shipment pack as follows:
11. Place each arm and its T-bar in its appropriate box.
12. Place these boxes in the slots provided. These are located at the back of the box on either side of the
seatback upright support bracket.
13. Close the box and securely tape shut.
 Service
Solution (SS-0308)
Product: SSS 301- Removal of Backrest- Button Style Chair
Object: Removing the back of the chair from the chair assembly
for parts/replacement.
Tools: Medium Phillips head screwdriver, small flat head screwdriver.
Parts: Screws (2) M6 X 35
Time: Procedure should take about 15 minutes.
Procedures:
1.1. Position the chair so that the back of it is facing directly towards you.
2. Using your hands, carefully pop off the plugs that are located at the very top of the backrest vertical support of your chair using the flat head screwdriver.
3. Once the plugs are out you may now use the Phillips head screwdriver to unscrew the screws that connect the upright to the backrest. Turn screws left to loosen.
4. Once screws are removed you may now remove the backrest from the chair.
5. Install the new backrest and position it so that you can screw the screws back in place, using provided spacers. Please ensure that the curved adapter plate is securely in place between the backrest and the upright.
6.b Use your Phillips head screwdriver to tighten screws and lock teh backrest in place. To tighten screws turn to the right.
7. Finally, take the plugs that you removed at the very beginning of the process and re-insert them into the holes.
 Service Solution (SS-0309)
Product: SSS 301-Lever Style Backrest - Removal of Backrest/Tightening
of Lever
Object: Removing the back of the chair from the chair assembly
for tightening of the height lever adjustment.
Tools/Material: Back Off tool. Torx 25 wrench.-Both supplied by
RGP. Supplemental engineering drawing. Call RGP at 800-522-9695
for a copy of the drawing.
Time: This procedure could take up to 30 minutes depending on
the efficiency at which the back is removed.
Procedures:
1. Position the chair so that you facing the back of the chair
from the rear.
2. Using the back height adjustment lever- raise
the back to its maximum height adjustment.
3. Review drawing that
accompanied the back off tool- The object it so use the back off
tool to bypass
the safety spring so the
back can be removed from the chair mechanism.
4. Insert the back
off tool in the vertical slot while at the same time attempting
to take the back rest off the chair upright
by loosening the height adjustment lever and lifting upward. This
is not an exact science and make take a few trys- It will come
off.
5. Viewing the backrest (now removed from chair upright) from
the front position you will see a 3/8 inch diameter hold. Insert
the Torx25 wrench into the hole and firmly tighten the torx
screw that goes into the lever tightening bracket.
6. This will tighten
the locking bracket and ensuring that it does not slide down the
upright.
7. Reinstall the backrest onto
the upright and adjust height as required.
8. Save the back off tool,
Torx wrench and drawing in case further adjustment is required.
Service Solution (SS-0310)
Product: SSS 301-Button Style Chair integrated with a slide lever
style seat.
Object: Mounting the adapter plate to the 301 Seat (Slide Lock
Style) for installation on this seat to the button style mechanism.
Tools: Phillips Head Screwdriver, 7/16 inch wrench, Supplemental
engineering drawing., call RGP at 800-522-9695 for a copy of
the drawing.
Parts: Steel pre drilled Plate, (2) ¼-20 X ½” screws,
(2) M6 X 30 Phillip head screws, (2) M6 X 50 Phillip head screws.
Time: Procedure time approximately 30 minutes
Procedures:
1. Remove and discard the existing seat and hardware.
2. Mount the aluminum plate to the mechanism framework (front)
of the chair using View 1 as a guide.
3. Install ¼-20 X ½” Phillips head screws
in Hole E with the threads facing upwards. Install the lock nuts
and hand tighten only.
4. After placing a protective covering on the table, place the
new seat on the table with the back facing the edge of the table
and the bottom facing up. Check orientation using View 2 as a guide.
5.
Place the mechanism with the plate, on top of the seat. Back
of mechanism (upright) towards back of the seat.
6. Align the front holes in plate (F View1) with front holes of
seat (A View 2) and install 2 M6 X50 screws. Hand Tighten only.
7. Align Back slot (D View 3) of mechanism with rear seat holes
(A View 2).
8. Insert M6 X 30 screws-Hand Tighten only.
9. Tighten all Seat screws at this time
10. Tighten the two bolts on the plate.
11. Place chair in its upright position on the floor and make
necessary adjustments for height and tilt as required.
 Service Solution (SS-0311)
Product: SSS 301-Slide lock Style Chair.
Object: Replace the plastic mechanism shroud and holding pins
Tools: Pliers
Parts: Plastic Mechanism shroud and holding pins (christmans trees)
supplied by RGP
Time: Procedure time approximately 10 minutes
Procedures:
1. Remove and discard the existing pins that may be broken off
in the mounting holes by grasping with pliers and removing.
2. Mount the mechanism shroud in place carefully aligning the
holes in the shroud with the holes in the mechanism.
3. Install the two holding pins (christmas trees) through the
shroud holes into the mechanism holes by pushing firmly in with
your thumbs, on the pins.
4. Discard broken pins and mechanism shroud- Chair is now ready
for operation.

Product: RGP-Assistant Stool – Removal of Backrest
Object: Removing the back of the chair from the chair assembly
for parts replacement or return shipment.
Tools: Small flat head screwdriver/ ball point pen.
Procedures:
1. Sit on the chair in the normal seated position.
2. Using your right hand reach around and locate the slide lock

bracket. In the back support bracket there will be a vertical slot

6. Using a small screwdriver, or ballpoint pen tip in your right
hand depress the tang/tab. With your left hand depress the slide
lock (or move it from right to left) mechanism inwards and simultaneously
lift upwards. The seatback will now be free of the retaining tang/tab
and in a position to be removed from the chair support mechanism.
7. Carefully lift the seatback bracket off of the chair support
mechanism.
8. For return shipment, please wrap backrest assembly in bubble
wrap for protection during shipping.
Service Solution (SS-0342)
Product: RGP Assisant Stool
Object: Removal of Slide lock mechanism from
the backrest bracket for replacement.
Tools: Medium size Phillips Screwdriver. Small Flathead Screwdriver
Parts: Replacement Plastic Slide lock w/ Phillip fastener installed,
10mm spring
Time: This procedure should take no longer than 15 minutes
Procedure:
1. Successfully complete Technical Bulletin (Service Solution
SS-0341).
2. Place the backrest on a flat surface with the back support upright
facing you; the curvature of the backrest in the upward position,
shroud side facing down.
3. With your right hand loosen the Phillips head screw approximately
3 turns counter clock wise (ccw). Turn the seatback over so the
curvature is facing downwards (shroud side is up).
4. Note: This is a spring-loaded device and there is a 5/8” long

Product: RGP Assistant Stool – Removal of Seat
Object: Removing the Seat of the chair from the chair assembly
for replacement or return shipment.
Tools: Medium/large Phillips Head Screwdriver
Parts: (2) M6 X 30 Phillip head screws, (2) M6 X 30 Flat head
Screws-mounted into replacement seat.
Time: This procedure should take about 15 minutes
Procedures:
1. Tip chair forward so that it is leaning on the backrest and
seat. Object is to remove the mechanism and plate from the molded
seta pan
2. Remove front most and rear most phillip head screws by turning
CCW. Do not remove Phillips head screws from spacers connecting
the mechanism to the plate.
3. Seat is now ready for removal and replacement
4. Place new seat on the mechanism and plate assembly.
5. Wrap existing seat in bubble wrap before return shipment.
Note: Customer is responsible for the integrity of returned items.

Service Solution (SS-0345)
Product: RGP Assistant Stool – Removal of Cylinder
Object: Removing the cylinder from the mechanism of the chair
for replacement or return shipment.
Tools: Large Ball peen or Claw Hammer
Procedures:
1. Remove backrest from chair. See Service
Solution SS-0341. Remove the abdomen/arm support from the chrome
J-Bar. Place a protective material (towel, sheet, blanket) on the
floor to protect seat cushion fabric.
2. Lower the plastic covers on the cylinder housing, they will
telescope downward with a gentle downward action of your hands.
3. Grasp the base in your less dominant hand and turn the chair
upside down. While the chair is upside down visually locate the
date stamp (on the mechanism) which is just forward of the shiny
cylinder.
4. With your dominant hand grasp the hammer and give the date
stamp a firm strike (s). The cylinder will dislodge from the mechanism.
5. Remove the J-bar by lifting up and sliding off the mechanism.
6. Remove the locking ring by loosening the three Allen Screws
and lifting off the cylinder along with the black rubber O-ring.
7. Remove the three plastic can covers.
8. Remove the foot ring by loosening the adjusting knob and lifting
upwards off the cylinder.
9. To remove the cylinder from the base- Grasp the base in your
less dominant hand with the wheels in the upward position.
10. With your dominant hand grasp the hammer and strike the cylinder.
NOTE: Strike the cylinder on the edge (rim) of the cylinder. DO
NOT strike the cylinder in the center.
11. You are now prepared to install the new cylinder.
12. Put the base on the floor in its normal position. Place the
cylinder in the base and push firmly downward.
13. Reinstall the foot ring, ensuring that the flat portions of
the foot ring are facing upwards.
14. Reinstall the telescopic plastic cover cans over the cylinder.
15. Place the rubber O-ring over the cylinder.
16. Reinstall the locking ring four inches from the top of the
cylinder. Securely tighten the three Allen screws.
17. Place the J bar over the cylinder, there should be approximately
one-inch of cylinder showing above the white nylon insert of the
J-Bar mounting bracket.
18. Take the seat mechanism and place in on the cylinder. CAREFULLY
kneel on the chair and exert downward pressure this will lock the
mechanism onto the cylinder.
19. Insert the assistant arm into the vertical portion of the
J-bar.
20. Re-install the back rest onto the vertical upright of the
mechanism.
21. Wrap the replaced cylinder in bubble wrap or paper for return
shipment.
22. Adjust the stool to its desired settings.

2. Tilt the seat back as far back as it will go, again using the rearmost lever on right side of chair. Place the paddle to the horizontal position.
3. Remove the back rest by following Service Solution SS-0341. Remove the assistant arm from the J-Bar bar loosening the adjustment knob and lifting upwards. Wrap both components in bubble wrap.
4. Wrap the seat in bubble wrap.
5. Place the chair in the box with the back rest on one of the solid sides of the box (sides without hand holds). J-Bar should be located on right side of chair as reviewed from front
6. Ensure that the backrest support is aligned with one of the wheel supports of the base.
7. There will be three cardboard inserts. Locate the one with the long vertical slot. This will go between the back of the box and the chair. The chair backrest will fit into the slot.
8. Place the second foldable insert between the front of the box and the front of the stool. The notch on the top of the insert will face toward the front of the chair.
9. Place the seatback (with the bracket in the up-wards position) in between the front of the box and the insert. Ensure that there is bubble wrap around the slide lock mechanism.
10. Place the flat insert on top of the seat. Align the long vertical slot with the vertical portion of the J-Bar. Other cutouts will align with mechanism back support upright and backrest vertical support.
11. Close the box and securely tape shut.


Service Solution (SS-0348)
Product: Assistant’s Stool
Object: Process Sheet for Changing the Assistant
Arm from a right to a left handed stool.
Tools: Philips Screwdriver or screw gun with
a # 1 and # 2 bit, and a flat head screwdriver.
Time: This procedure should take about 20 minutes
Materials: Foot ring
Procedures:
1. Locate the triangular knob on the “J” bar, loosen
slightly and remove the upholstered portion of the armrest my pulling
it upward.
2. Place the armrest on a table so the upholstered portion is
facing downward.
Locate the ratchet mechanism, with the #2 Philips head in the screwdriver
or screw gun, loosen all 3 screws in a counter clockwise fashion,
and leave this on the armrest until the new ratchet is in place.
3. On the opposite end of the armrest, there is a rectangular
plate. Using the flat head screwdriver, gently pry either the left
or right end of the plate upward to release the plastic tab.
4. Remove the plastic cover, and place it on the table.
5. Insert the NEW ratchet mechanism onto the armrest, and tighten
all 3 screws in a clockwise fashion. You may have to cut or remove
some vinyl that may cover some of the screw ports.
6. Remove the old ratchet mechanism and place the plastic cover
onto the armrest, snapping it into place.
7. Replace the armrest onto the Assistant Stool. Slide the “J” bar
to the opposite side of the stool. Locate the triangular knob;
slide the armrest into the “J” bar making sure the
flat track that has been milled into the round steel stock is aligned
with the tightening knob. This is very important; the armrest will
not function properly unless this track is aligned with the tightening
knob.
8. Tighten the knob; press the armrest towards the backrest of
the stool. Once installed, the armrest should click rapidly as
the armrest moves towards the backrest, it should click only while
being pressed towards the user, not away from the user. If it does
not click, check the alignment of the tightening knob, readjusting
as needed.
9. Once the stool is operational, gather up the original equipment
and package it up to return to RGP. Inside of the shipping container,
there will be a plastic sleeve with a UPS label inside. Seal the
carton and place the label over the existing label on the package.
UPS will return the package back to us.

Service Solution (SS-0349)
Product: RGP Chair – Attaching a foot-ring
Object: To attach a foot-ring to a stool.
Tools: Claw Hammer, Allen Wrench 3/64”
Time: This procedure should take about 20 minutes
Materials: Foot ring
Procedures:
1. Remove the back of the chair utilizing SS -0301 or SS 0341
2. To remove the cylinder from the base- Grasp the base in your
less dominant hand with the wheels in the upward position.
3. With your dominant hand grasp the hammer and strike the cylinder.
NOTE: Strike the cylinder on the edge (rim) of the cylinder. DO
NOT strike the cylinder in the center. Gravity and the tapping
of the cylinder will cause the separation of the cylinder from
the foot-ring. This will remove the star base and wheels from the
chair.
4. Install the new foot ring by sliding it onto the bottom of
the now exposed cylinder. Be sure that the flat portions of the
foot ring are facing upwards towards the seat of the stool.
5. Place the base of the stool onto the exposed bottom of the
cylinder. Place assembled stool onto floor and check that the stool’s
functionality is proper.
6. Adjust the height of the foot ring by loosening the adjustment
knob on the foot ring and raising or lowering to the desire height.
Securely tighten adjustment knob.
NOTE:
7. If the stool has a tall gas cylinder, the three-piece telescoping
cylinder cover may remain on the stool. If you have a standard
size or small cylinder, you will have to remove the three-piece
telescoping cylinder cover by following the remaining directions.
8. Grasp the base in your less dominant hand and turn the chair
upside down. While the chair is upside down visually locate the
date stamp (on the mechanism) which is just forward of the shiny
cylinder.
9. With your dominant hand grasp the hammer and give the date
stamp a firm strike (s). The cylinder will dislodge from the mechanism.
10. If you have an assistant’s armrests, remove the J-bar
by lifting up and sliding off the mechanism. If you do not have
an Assistant Armrest go to Step 12 then Step 16.
11. Remove the locking ring by loosening the three Allen Screws
and lifting off the cylinder along with the black rubber O-ring.
12. Remove the three plastic telescopic cylinder covers.
13. Place the rubber O-ring over the cylinder.
14. Reinstall the locking ring four inches from the top of the
cylinder. Securely tighten the three Allen screws.
15. Place the J bar over the cylinder, there should be approximately
one-inch of cylinder showing above the white nylon insert of the
J-Bar mounting bracket.
16. Take the seat mechanism and place in on the cylinder. CAREFULLY
kneel on the chair and exert downward pressure this will lock the
mechanism onto the cylinder.
17. Insert the assistant arm into the vertical portion of the
J-bar.
18. Re-install the back rest onto the vertical upright of the
mechanism.
19. Adjust the stool to its desired settings.
